Day 7--Northern Idaho to Columbia Falls Montana

Day 7 of the road trip started off with sleeping in and waffles at our hotel, which was surprisingly nice, and then we hit the road around 10.  The view was great once we reached flathead lake and could see the park off in the distance.
We got to the park around 3, bought our year pass, and heard the bad news from the ranger--nearly all the park was still snowed in!  KHAAAAN!  The road was only open up to the Lake MacDonald lodge but we were free to hike along the road after that as much as we wanted.  This kinda stunk because we were both really looking forward to this park.  Oh well, this is what happens when you decide to travel in early May--hopefully we'll have better luck in Rocky Mountain National Park later in the month.

We drove as far as we could along the road and then tried out the fancy baby carrier and put our hikin boots on.  Aurelia looks fake in that first picture...

The view from the lodge was nice
We hiked, maybe about a mile and a half up the road till we decided to turn around.  We saw a pretty rapid/falls area.  I saw this pretty lady and had to get a picture...

Then we drove back down to the other end of the lake and got some postcard worthy pictures.  Hey there's that pretty lady again!

For dinner we ate at a restaurant in Whitefish called Pescado Blanco.  I had Chorizo Elk tacos and Beth had a Bison Enchilada.  The mole sauce in the enchilada was very very tasty and the chorizo was spiced perfectly. We got to eat some great Montana-y mexican food so we were pretty happy about that.
Plans for day 8 are a bit up in the air.  We may go back to the park or we may start making our way to South Dakota.  Stupid record snow in April.

  1. Finally caught up on your blog. You guys have been busy since you left Chez Hung! I love that library in Seattle. And Montana looks absolutely gorgeous--will have to go there sometime soon.
