While Beth was writing Aurelia decided to sit on me.
Our first stop was down town Des Moines. It's actually larger than I expected and it has a big skywalk system similar to Minneapolis. We grabbed a quick bite at a Panera and then walked around for a bit. Here's a cool picture from one of the skywalks. I took it. No big deal.
We tried to take an elevator up the highest building in the city for some decent pictures but aparently only lame-o Morgan Stanley employees and their patrons are allowed to do that. Hellame.
So we walked east and ran into the city's main library. Not as cool as my new favorite building in America, the Seattle Public Library, but not too shabby. There was a copper-metallic looking film over the outside of the windows tinting them, but inside you could see out just fine. Neat looking, but it would have been better if it was a full two story window inside, have the second floor pulled away from the glass like in Seattle.
After the library we walked by some public art. OMG Spiders!
Aurelia contemplated this piece for a while...
It was nice. Not a lot of stuff, but nice. We heard through the grapevine that the East village neighborhood, between the capital and the river was the hot spot in town so we planned to go there tomorrow. In the meantime we went to the totally free and quite good Des Moines Art Center. No pictures allowed (hellame)
so not much to post about it, but they have a HUGE elevator that we had to break the rules for...
That elevator had to be 15 feet long and 2 Beth's (6 Aurelia's) high! We headed back home where we finally got to spend some time with our favorite niece Anastasia (Anya).
Kristen got to play with Aurelia
Aurelia got to play with Anya
Aunty Beth got to play with Anya
And then Anya got to play with Aunty Beth...
Day #15 complete. I wonder who is going to get kicked off American Idol and Dancing with the Stars. I can't wait.
Love the pictures of Aurelia....of coarse and her cuz looks quite the bombshell as well....have to admit your photo of the skywalk and spider almost made me want to come to Iowa to check it out....but, then I am on the brink of losing it since I haven't had my Aurelia fix!!! (hellame)
