Wall Drug cannot be explained with words. Good thing we took some pictures.
After we were able to pull ourselves away from the wonders of Wall Drug, we headed to Badlands National Park. As you drive across the boring, I mean golden and fertile, land of South Dakota the Badlands suddenly appear out of [literally] nowhere. The rock formations rising out of the grassy plains and set against a bright blue sky were beautiful to behold.
If you couldn't tell from yesterday's pictures, Val and Nathan are part monkey and part mountain goat. They took us to their favorite trail to scamper around on the rocks.
Can you spot us?
Can you find Val and Nathan?
After a day of fun, we settled into our cars for a long drive to Val and Nathan's place in Sioux Falls. Pheasants, South Dakota's state bird, made it a stressful drive as they were seemingly unaware of the 80 mile-an-hour traffic blowing by them. So often my heart stopped for a few seconds as the stupid creatures flew right in front of the car or stood in groups in the middle of the highway. They could be an abundant alternative to chicken if they didn't make themselves roadkill before people got a chance at them during hunting season.
We shouldve honeymooned at Wall Drugs! It actually does look pretty fun.
