Day 2--Ashland to Newport

We said farewell to Eping, Anne, and Natalie and headed for the Oregon coast.  A portion of the drive was through beautiful hills, valleys, and wooded areas and followed the Umpqua river.  We also passed many sheep, goat, llamas, cows, horses, and even tatanka!  Beautiful scenery plus Walter Bruggeman in the background made it a great drive.

We finally got to the Pacific Ocean!

Phil tested the water to see how it compared to frigid San Francisco.

Stopped in at the Sea Lion Caves--didn't pay the $12/person to ride their elevator down into the cave, but enjoyed the view and saw some sea lions frolicking out in the open water.

We weaved up the 101 and decided to stop in Newport for the night.  We had some fresh seafood down by the Bayfront and walked around the deserted piers.  Apparently tourists aren't in season in early May.

Then, we made sure to get enough rest for tomorrow we are off to see Brielle and Matt!!
